Perry County Schools under federal Title IX review

HAZARD, Ky. (WMDJ) — Perry County Public Schools is among 20 school districts nationwide selected for a federal review of Title IX policies and procedures, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

The Office for Civil Rights will examine whether the district has policies and procedures in place to accurately collect and report data involving allegations of sexual misconduct by school employees, and whether it complies with federal Title IX requirements. Perry County is the only Kentucky district included in the review.

In a statement, the district confirmed it received a letter from the Office for Civil Rights regarding its Title IX policies and procedures. School officials said they are cooperating with the review, responding to requests for information, and remain committed to student safety. The district also said it is unsure why it was selected.

The Department of Education has not alleged any wrongdoing by Perry County Public Schools, and the review remains ongoing.
