Floyd County man arrested on child sexual abuse indictment

McDOWELL, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Floyd County man has been arrested after being indicted earlier this month on a child sexual abuse charge.

 

Joshua Hopkins, of McDowell, was taken into custody Tuesday by the Floyd County Sheriff's Department on an indictment warrant charging him with one count of first-degree sexual abuse involving a victim younger than 12.

 

The Floyd County Grand Jury returned the indictment on July 8. According to the indictment, the offense is alleged to have occurred in October 2019.

 

Under Kentucky law, first-degree sexual abuse involving a victim younger than 12 is a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison upon conviction

 

Hopkins is scheduled to appear in Floyd Circuit Court on Aug. 20.
