MCROBERTS, Ky. (WMDJ) — A McRoberts man is facing charges after a shooting Monday afternoon in Letcher County.

According to a Kentucky State Police news release, troopers responded to a report of a shooting on Sheas Fork in the McRoberts area shortly after 4 p.m.

When troopers arrived, they found an adult man with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was treated at the scene and taken to Whitesburg ARH Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

State police identified the suspect as 65-year-old Hibert Tackett of McRoberts. Investigators say Tackett left the scene before law enforcement arrived but was later taken into custody without incident.

Tackett is charged with first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence. He was lodged in the Letcher County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
