Martin County woman arrested following assault complaint

INEZ, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Martin County woman was arrested Sunday night after Kentucky State Police investigated an assault complaint at a home on Little Rockcastle Road in the Inez community.

According to an arrest citation, troopers responded to the home around 8:49 p.m. after a woman reported she had been assaulted with a baseball bat.

The woman told troopers that Teri Lynn Sammons, 44, of Lovely, entered the home armed with a handgun and a baseball bat, pointed the handgun at her and her father, and then struck her foot with the bat, causing an injury to her toe.

Troopers reported observing a small laceration on the woman’s right toe but noted the injury did not appear consistent with being caused by a baseball bat. They also observed a scratch on her back, which the woman said occurred during a physical altercation.

Investigators said they located Sammons outside the residence and observed what appeared to be blood on her shirt. Sammons told troopers the blood was from an injury to her elbow.

Troopers searched the home and surrounding property for the reported handgun and baseball bat but said neither item was located.

According to the citation, Sammons told investigators she had been asked to come to the home to help clean and claimed the woman accused her of stealing medication. Sammons also told troopers the woman had the baseball bat and cut her own toe on a razor while intoxicated.

Following the investigation, Sammons was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault (minor injury) and second-degree criminal trespassing. She was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
