Johnson County Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Stabbing Two People, Possessing Stolen Truck

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Johnson County man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to assault and receiving stolen property charges.

Brian Chase Cantrell was sentenced June 26 in Johnson Circuit Court to 10 years on two counts of second-degree assault and an additional five years for receiving stolen property, for a total sentence of 15 years.

According to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the assault charges stemmed from a domestic violence incident in which Cantrell allegedly attacked a woman with a knife. A neighbor who heard the disturbance intervened to help, but was also stabbed during the confrontation.

Both victims suffered injuries.

The receiving stolen property conviction involved a Toyota Tacoma that had been stolen from a local business. Prosecutors said the truck had been spray-painted and belonged to a resident of Dwale in Floyd County.
