FRANKFORT, Ky. (WMDJ) — While overdose deaths continued to decline across Kentucky in 2025, Floyd County saw an increase, according to the state's annual Kentucky Drug Overdose Fatality Report.
The report shows 21 Floyd County residents died from drug overdoses in 2025, up from 15 the previous year. Floyd County's age-adjusted overdose death rate also increased from 44.1 to 55.6 deaths per 100,000 residents.
Despite recording fewer overdose deaths than many larger counties, Floyd County ranked fifth in Kentucky for overdose death rate among counties with at least 10 overdose deaths. Only Rockcastle, Estill, Boyd and Garrard counties reported higher rates.
Statewide, Kentucky reported 1,110 overdose deaths in 2025, down from 1,410 in 2024, a decrease of 22.9%.
The report notes that age-adjusted death rates are used to compare counties because they account for differences in population size and age distribution. The data is preliminary and subject to change.
