MAYTOWN, Ky. (WMDJ) — New details have been released after a Floyd County woman was killed in an apparent dog attack Sunday afternoon.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office has now identified the victim as Cynthia “Cindy” Patton Prater. Deputies were called to Railroad Street in Maytown around 3 p.m. after a report of a woman lying in the roadway.
Authorities say preliminary findings, including video evidence, indicate the dog knocked Prater to the ground before attacking her. A German shepherd was found near the scene.
Investigators say the dog was known in the area and had reportedly accompanied the woman on previous walks, with no prior history of aggressive behavior reported.
An official cause of death has not yet been released and will be determined by autopsy results. The dog has been euthanized and will undergo further testing to help determine what may have triggered the attack.
The investigation remains ongoing.
