UPDATE: One in critical condition after Prestonsburg senior center crash

UPDATE (April 24): Police have released new details in the case.

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — Police have released new details in a crash that injured multiple people Friday afternoon at the Prestonsburg Senior Citizens Center.

Officials say a vehicle driven by Mary Dotson, 79, of Prestonsburg, was backing out of a parking space when it suddenly accelerated in reverse, striking two parked vehicles before hitting Ada DePoy, 80, of Prestonsburg, and dragging her about 25 feet.

The vehicle then hit the building and continued in reverse, striking a bench under a canopy where Charles Wallen, 67, and James McGuire, 69, were seated.

DePoy was airlifted to Pikeville Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. Wallen and McGuire were taken to Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. Dotson was also taken to the Highlands ARH as a precaution.

Investigators believe the crash was accidental and may have been caused by the driver pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. Impairment is not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
