Kentucky Treasurer: Unclaimed Property Returns Top $100 Million

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WMDJ) — The Kentucky State Treasury says it has returned more than $100 million in unclaimed property to residents, marking a record amount at this point in an administration.

The milestone comes as part of an ongoing effort by the Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division to reconnect Kentuckians with lost or forgotten funds.

Unclaimed property can include items such as dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance payments, utility deposits and other financial assets that have been turned over to the state for safekeeping.

State officials say recent claims have ranged from small amounts to payouts worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The Treasury continues to encourage residents to check for possible unclaimed funds, noting that additional money is still waiting to be claimed.

Kentuckians can search for unclaimed property through the state treasury website or through the MissingMoney.com database. Searches are free and secure.
