LONDON, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Pikeville woman charged in a federal drug case has pleaded not guilty, with her trial now set for June.
Brandy Melissa Meadows, 47, a former owner of Kentucky Mountain Health, entered the plea Thursday in federal court in London. Her trial is scheduled to begin June 16 and is expected to last about four days.
The case comes two weeks after her business partner, Bryce Layne May, 58, of Asheville, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.
According to court records, May admitted the clinic continued issuing oxycodone and hydrocodone prescriptions using a doctor’s name after that doctor was no longer employed there. Investigators say patients paid $200 in cash per visit.
May faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced August 18. He has also agreed to pay more than $16,000 in restitution and forfeit more than $89,000.
Meadows is charged with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and aggravated identity theft. Both defendants remain free pending further proceedings.
