Prestonsburg man charged with assault after domestic incident

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Floyd County man is facing a felony charge after an alleged domestic assault early Tuesday morning.

Police say the case began just before 3 a.m., when an officer spotted a vehicle with a shattered windshield and only one working headlight circling the Court Street and North Lake Drive area. The vehicle was stopped on Arnold Avenue.

The driver told police she was looking for her husband, identified as 26-year-old Ruben Dario Garcia of Prestonsburg, and accused him of assaulting her. The officer noted visible injuries, including cuts and bruising around her eyes and nose, and a possible broken nose.

According to the report, the woman said the couple had been arguing outside their home when Garcia punched the windshield, breaking it. She said they later went to bed, where the argument continued and she was struck in the mouth. She reported being hit multiple times in the face with a remote control and his hands before escaping in her vehicle.

Garcia was located later that night on Porter Street and taken into custody.

He is charged with second-degree assault and is being held in the Floyd County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
