Johnson County man faces new charge after alleged threat against Floyd jailer

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Johnson County man who previously served time for shooting a Prestonsburg police officer is facing a new charge after allegedly threatening Floyd County Jailer Steve Little.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Robert Powers, of Sitka, made the threat April 9 while being held in the Floyd County Detention Center. Authorities say he indicated he knew where Little lived and referenced the prior shooting of Prestonsburg Police officer Adam Dixon.

Powers was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2018 in connection with the 2015 shooting of Dixon, who survived. He was later released on Mandatory Reentry Supervision after serving just under 10 years.

He was most recently arrested in late March following a traffic stop by Prestonsburg Police. Court records show Powers faces multiple charges in that case, including DUI, drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
