WILLIAMSPORT, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Johnson County woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say she fired a gun at two teenagers who were trying to report a forest fire.
The incident happened just before midnight Friday along Route 40 near Williamsport. According to authorities, the teens stopped after spotting a fire and called 911. During the call, one of them reported hearing possible gunshots.
A witness told police that 42-year-old Misty Dawn Barker, of Van Lear, was standing in the roadway and firing toward the teens. The witness said Barker also made threats toward them.
When Kentucky State Police and Johnson County deputies arrived, they said Barker initially refused to drop the weapon. Officers were able to de-escalate the situation and take her into custody.
Barker is charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment involving a firearm, two additional counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and terroristic threatening.
She is being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.
