Pike County man arrested after attempted refrigerator theft

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Pike County man is facing multiple charges after troopers say he was caught trying to remove a refrigerator from a home along Collins Highway.

Kentucky State Police responded Sunday afternoon to a report of a possible break-in in progress.

According to investigators, the homeowner was alerted after seeing a man and a child enter the residence through a security camera. The owner then went to the property and positioned a vehicle in the driveway to keep anyone from leaving.

Troopers say the suspect, 52-year-old Marion Rogers of Pikeville, claimed he believed the house was for sale and said he was only there to look at it. The homeowner, however, told police the property had not been listed.

Police say Rogers acknowledged going inside the home but denied attempting to steal anything.

Authorities say video evidence showed Rogers and the child using a hand truck to move a refrigerator toward the door. When troopers arrived, the appliance was partially outside the home.

Rogers was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and unlawful transaction with a minor.

The child involved was released to his mother.
