PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) — Appalachian Regional Healthcare has filed a lawsuit against Pike County, claiming it is owed more than $3.26 million for medical care provided to inmates at the Pike County Detention Center.
The complaint, filed Dec. 18, 2025, in Pike Circuit Court, says ARH treated inmates who could not afford care.
The lawsuit names Pike County Judge-Executive Ray Jones and Jailer Brian Morris in his official role.
ARH says Kentucky law requires detention centers to cover the cost of medical, dental and mental health care for inmates who cannot pay. While the county has paid similar bills in the past, ARH claims several accounts remain unpaid.
The total amount listed in the lawsuit is $3,265,475.94, not including interest. Records show many of the charges involve psychiatric inpatient services over several years.
ARH is asking for the money it says is owed, along with interest, court costs, attorneys’ fees and a jury trial.
The case is assigned to Pike Circuit Judge Eddy Coleman.
