PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Floyd County man has been found guilty in connection to a deadly shooting last year in Auxier.
A Floyd County jury on Wednesday convicted 68-year-old Larry Johnson of first-degree manslaughter, a Class B felony. Jurors recommended a 20-year sentence.
The charge stems from an April 2025 incident in which Johnson shot and killed Steven Adkins following an altercation. According to testimony, Johnson approached Adkins on a bridge after spotting him, and the two struggled briefly.
Investigators say Johnson then returned to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and shot Adkins. Adkins later died from his injuries.
The case was investigated by Kentucky State Police, with assistance from Prestonsburg Police and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. Prosecutors with the Attorney General’s Office handled the case.
Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced June 4 at 9 a.m.
Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced the verdict in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
