Pike County Man Charged After Reportedly Shooting Neighbor

SHELBIANA, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Pike County man is facing a felony charge after allegedly shooting his neighbor during a dispute.

Police responded to Pikeville Medical Center after a man arrived with a gunshot wound to his left foot near the ankle.

According to the report, the victim told officers he was cutting grass on his property in Shelbiana when 83-year-old Franklin Kendrick came outside and began arguing with him. The victim said he was standing near his vehicle when Kendrick shot him.

When officers spoke with Kendrick, he declined to give a statement and requested an attorney. Family members later provided police with a .45 caliber firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

Investigators say the two men had an ongoing property dispute.

Kendrick was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. He is being held in the Pike County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
