Salyersville Man Arrested for DUI with Child in Vehicle

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Salyersville man was arrested on DUI and wanton endangerment charges after police said he was found intoxicated with a child inside a vehicle.

According to the Salyersville Police Department, officers were called to West Maple Street after receiving a report of a person who appeared highly intoxicated and possibly operating a vehicle with a small child inside.

Police said they later located the vehicle running, with the driver seated behind the wheel and the vehicle in drive.

Officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol and observing slurred speech. Field sobriety tests were conducted before the driver, identified as David Austin Dotson of Salyersville, was taken into custody.

A breath test cited in the report showed a blood alcohol content of .158.

Dotson is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence (.08 or above) with an aggravating circumstance and first-degree wanton endangerment.

Dotson is currently lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
