FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) — Two firefighters were injured while battling an active wildfire in Floyd County this weekend.
According to Team Kentucky’s Division of Forestry, crews are working to contain a fire along Kentucky Route 1498, which is burning within a roughly 95-acre area.
Officials said the firefighters were injured after a shift in the fire’s pattern.
One firefighter was treated at an area hospital and later released. The second firefighter was airlifted to a hospital in Cincinnati for treatment.
The extent of the injuries has not been released.
Authorities said nearby residents are not currently at risk as crews continue efforts to contain the fire.
