LONDON, Ky. (WMDJ) — A former Pike County resident has been indicted on federal charges related to explicit materal involving children.
According to court documents, a federal grand jury in London indicted Gary Don Hampton, 49, formerly of Virgie, on March 26. He is charged with receipt and possession of the explicit material.
Court records show Hampton was originally arrested in September 2023 following an undercover investigation by the Kentucky State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Investigators reported that a phone was recovered during a search warrant. A review of the device allegedly revealed multiple files involving minors.
At the time of his arrest, Hampton was also wanted on warrants out of South Carolina, including charges related to exploitation of a minor and solicitation.
According to the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry, Hampton was previously convicted in Letcher County on a sexual abuse charge. He is currently incarcerated at Macdugall Correctional Institution in South Carolina.
No court dates have been announced.
