PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — A man convicted in the 2015 shooting of a Prestonsburg police officer has been arrested again, this time on drug-related charges.
Robert L. Powers, 38, of Sitka, was arrested Tuesday morning after a traffic stop in Prestonsburg. According to the report, Prestonburg Police officers stopped Powers on suspicion of DUI and found methamphetamine, marijuana, other drugs and what was described as drug trafficking paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Powers and a passenger, Hillary Cline, 34, of Prestonsburg, were both charged with complicity to trafficking in methamphetamine, complicity to trafficking in marijuana, possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Powers previously pleaded guilty in 2018 to charges including second-degree assault, wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the 2015 shooting of Prestonsburg Police Officer Adam Dixon.
Police said Dixon was shot in the chest while attempting to arrest Powers after a pursuit. Dixon survived.
Powers was sentenced to 20 years in prison in December 2018 and was later paroled in February 2025.
He is now being held in the Floyd County Detention Center.
