Magoffin County man arrested after DUI complaint in Salyersville area

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Magoffin County man was arrested after deputies responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver in the Far Middle Fork area.

According to an arrest citation, deputies located the vehicle and observed it turn onto a gravel road without using a signal. Officers say the driver did not immediately stop when emergency lights were activated and continued down the road before turning around.

Deputies reported the driver, identified as 40-year-old Sonny Keeton of Salyersville, showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, an unsteady stance, glassy eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. The citation also noted the driver appeared highly agitated.

Officers say they found alcoholic beverage containers inside the vehicle.

During the arrest, the citation states Keeton pulled away from deputies, leading to a brief struggle before he was taken into custody.

Keeton was transported to Salyersville Medical Center, where he refused a blood test after implied consent was read, according to the report.

He is charged with DUI, resisting arrest, menacing, disorderly conduct, and several traffic-related offenses. Keeton was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
