Former Magoffin County teacher pleads guilty in case involving student

MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) — A former Magoffin County Middle School teacher has pleaded guilty to charges involving a minor student.

Jordan Cobb, 32, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of procuring the use of a minor by electronic means, a Class D felony, and one count of harassing communications, a Class B misdemeanor.

Court records show Cobb used Snapchat in May 2023 to contact a 14-year-old student. Investigators say he sent explicit images and messages encouraging sexual activity. Authorities say he later sent threatening messages to the same victim through Facebook.

Under a plea agreement, Cobb will serve five years in prison and is not eligible for probation. The sentence will run at the same time as federal charges tied to the case.

Cobb is scheduled to be sentenced June 5.
