Knott County man charged with arson after reported break-in

HINDMAN, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Knott County man is facing an arson charge after Kentucky State Police said he allegedly broke into a home and tried to set it on fire.

Troopers were called to a home on Push Back Branch Road in the Hindman community after receiving a complaint about a break-in and an attempted house fire.

According to state police, the victim said her cousin, Jacob Seals, entered the home and tried to burn it down.

When troopers arrived, they reported finding the front door open. They also said there was burn damage on the living room floor, along with a partially burned rug and camping chair. Investigators also reported finding what appeared to be spilled motor oil inside the home.

Police said the victim told them Seals did not live there, but identified a hoodie found inside the house as belonging to him.

State police said they also reviewed text messages and videos related to the case. According to the arrest citation, the victim said Seals had threatened to burn the home in messages sent to her.

Seals was later located at another location in Knott County and arrested. He was charged with second-degree arson and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.
