Kentucky Soldier Dies After Injuries From Enemy Attack in Saudi Arabia

GLENDALE, Ky. (WMDJ) — A Kentucky soldier has died after being injured in an enemy attack earlier this month in Saudi Arabia.

According to the U.S. Department of War, Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, 26, of Glendale, was wounded March 1 during an attack at Prince Sultan Air Base.

Officials say Pennington died Sunday from his injuries.

Pennington was assigned to the 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Governor Andy Beshear said on social media that Pennington sacrificed his life while serving the country and that he is praying for the soldier’s family and fellow Kentuckians.

Senator Mitch McConnell also expressed condolences to Pennington’s family and noted the risks faced by American service members stationed overseas.

Officials say Pennington’s death is the seventh combat-related fatality reported since February 28.

The Department of War says the incident remains under investigation.
