Martin County man sentenced to more than 8 years in Huntington fentanyl case

HUNTINGTON, Wv. (WMDJ) — A Martin County man has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking operation based in Huntington.

Kody Harless, 28, of Tomahawk, was sentenced Tuesday to 106 months in prison after previously pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute.

According to court records, Harless admitted he obtained nearly five grams of fentanyl from a source in Huntington and intended to sell some of it. Police later discovered the drugs during a traffic stop shortly after the transaction.

Harless also told investigators he was involved in a larger drug conspiracy between July and November of 2023. Authorities say he traveled to Huntington to obtain fentanyl and meth before bringing the drugs back to Kentucky to distribute.

Harless was one of 27 people indicted as part of a federal investigation into a Huntington-based drug trafficking organization. So far, 23 of the defendants have pleaded guilty.
