PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — Floyd County Schools has announced the appointment of Brentton Akers as the new principal of Adams Middle School.
School officials say Akers brings a strong background in education, leadership, and a commitment to student success.
Akers began his career as a high school mathematics teacher. He spent one year teaching in Pulaski County Schools before returning to Floyd County to teach at Betsy Layne High School, where he worked with students for four years.
Over the past year and a half, Akers has served as Assistant Principal at Adams Middle School, building relationships with students, staff and families.
A graduate of Betsy Layne High School, Akers earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky. He later completed a Master of Arts in Teaching and an Education Specialist degree at the University of the Cumberlands.
In a statement, Akers said he is honored and excited to step into the leadership role.
He said he looks forward to continuing to work with the students, staff and community at Adams Middle School and helping the school remain a strong place for learning.
