Kidd Resigns As Prestonsburg Girls Basketball Coach

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WMDJ) — The head coach of the Prestonsburg High School girls basketball team has announced he is stepping down after nearly a decade with the program.

Coach Brandon Kidd shared the news in a statement to the community on social media, saying he has decided to resign from his position after nine years leading the Lady Blackcats.

Kidd said when he first accepted the job, many people believed the program could not compete at a high level. Over time, he said players, families and supporters helped build something special.

During his tenure, Prestonsburg recorded multiple 20-win seasons and captured a district championship. The team also finished as district runner-up and made three straight regional tournament appearances. Kidd said the program grew from the ground up and eventually became a consistent contender.

He also noted that the Lady Blackcats became one of the most successful teams in program history during his time as head coach.

In his statement, Kidd thanked the players, parents and community members who supported the team through the years.

He said the decision to step away was difficult, but believes everything happens for a reason and hopes the program will continue to build on its success.

Kidd is the current Principal of Prestonsburg High School.
