JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) —  A crash involving a propane tanker truck shut down part of KY 201 in Johnson County Thursday afternoon and left one person dead.

According to W.R. Castle Fire-Rescue, the highway was closed at mile marker 9.5, less than a mile from the Lawrence County line, following the crash.

Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement said a propane tanker was involved in the accident. Officials confirmed one fatality. No word on their identity at this time.

Authorities say the crash happened in a rural area. As a precaution, a small number of nearby homes were evacuated.

Officials also said no fuel leak was reported from the tanker.

At this time, KY 201 is closed while emergency crews respond to the scene.
