Four Arrested After Fight Outside Warfield Elementary

WARFIELD, Ky. (WMDJ) — Four people were arrested Monday after a fight among adults outside Warfield Elementary School in Martin County.

The incident prompted school officials to place the school on a “soft lockdown” as a precaution.

According to the Martin County School Police Department, officers were called to the school parking lot after reports of a fight involving multiple adults.

Police say Gage Reed, 25, of Debord, and Ronald Reed, 29, of Sitka, told officers the situation began earlier with an altercation involving 21-year-old Caleb Costa, of Warfield, at a McDonald’s in Inez. The two men said they later followed Costa in an attempt to obtain his address so they could pursue charges.

Investigators say the Reeds pulled into the Warfield Elementary parking lot and began turning around when Costa and his father, Tony Costa, 48, confronted them on school property.

According to the police report, school security video showed the Costas approaching the Reeds. However, the report also noted the Reeds had the opportunity to leave but instead exited their vehicle.

All four men were arrested and charged with second-degree disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail.

Police also charged Sunday Costa, 45, of Warfield, with the same offense, but he was not taken into custody.

School officials said the soft lockdown was issued out of caution and that the incident did not threaten students or staff.
