ELKHORN CITY, Ky. (WMDJ) – A Pike County man has been arrested for attempted murder after breaking into a home Monday night in Elkhorn City.

Witnesses told Kentucky State Police that George Standifur, 44, allegedly broke into their home attempting to shoot two occupants, but his weapon failed to fire, allowing the homeowner to grab his own gun and shoot Standifur in the leg.

He was taken into custody after surrendering to KSP hours later in an alley behind the home.

Standifur has been charged with attempted murder, wanton endangerment of a police officer, terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, menacing, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
