ELKHORN CITY, Ky. (WMDJ) – Kentucky State Police have opened a death investigation after a Virginia man was found dead in a creek in Pike County.

Adam Stanley, 48, of Haysi, VA, who had previously reported missing to law enforcement in Virgina, was discovered in a creek in Elkhorn City near Big Branch Road on Wednesday.

Stanley was last seen on May 31st. 

Stanley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office. His body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The cause of death remains under investigation.
