HINDMAN, Ky. (WMDJ) – The Hindman Settlement School is facing a major setback after learning that federal funding for its reading and math intervention programs has been cut effective immediately.

The AmericCorps grant made up nearly one-third of the school’s annual budget. While most operations will continue unaffected, the school is working to sustain the children’s programs through the end of the school year, with emergency support from its Board of Directors.

Officials hope to raise $250,000 through community donations to keep the programs alive.
