VAN LEAR, Ky. (WMDJ) – Six people were pulled to safety by swift-water crews during flashing flooding in Van Lear on Friday.
W.R. Castle and Oil Springs Vol. Fire Departments worked to rescue residents from several homes in the Silk Stocking Loop area of Van Lear.
Johnson County Judge Executive Mark McKenzie declared a state of emergency prompted by the severe storms.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for Johnson County as more rain and storms is forecast for Saturday. The National Weather Service has forecast as much as 2.2 total inches of rainfall for the Johnson County area through Monday morning.
