Williams appointed new superintendent Floyd County schools

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) – Members of the Floyd County Board of Education have selected a new superintendent.

 

Tonya Williams was named new superintendent in a 4-1 vote on Monday.


Dr. Chandra Varia voted against the measure. Board Chairman William "Junior" Newsome, Linda Gearheart, Steve Slone and Keith Smallwood voted in favor of selecting Williams.

 

Williams has 28-years of experience working in the Floyd County school system and retired in 2019 as Chief Academic Officer.

 

In a statement, Williams said, “I am confident my experience, leadership and dedication will propel the district to even greater levels of success.”

 

Williams will receive a 2-1/2 year contract, which begins on Jan. 31st through June 30th, 2027, with a 1-year option for extension.
