South Floyd second graders recognized for heroic action during a choking incident

HI HAT, Ky. (WMDJ) – A pair of second graders at South Floyd Elementary are being recognized as heroes after coming to the aid of a fellow classmate last week.

Keaton Johnson and Bennett Johnson, sprang into action when they noticed a friend choking on a piece of hard candy and successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver, helping one of their friends.

The incident happened during class when the boys saw their friend beginning to choke.

South Floyd Principal Rady Martin praised the boys’ maturity and quick action, while Floyd County Schools Superintendent Larry Hammond called the boys, “true role models” for their compassionate action.

Both boys will be honored at the next scheduled Board of Education meeting on November 25th.
