UPIKE plans to open new preventative medicine clinic in Floyd County

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WMDJ) – The University of Pikeville has announced a new healthcare clinic coming to Floyd County.

UPIKE board chairman Terry Dotson has donated the former home of Worldwide Equipment on KY Route 1428 in Prestonsburg to the university, which will be remodeled to create the Appalachian Center for Preventative Medicine.

UPIKE has also been awarded a $2 million POWER grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.

According to a news release, 475 students will rotate through the 25,000 square foot space each year, to get hands-on experience while serving patients in the region.
