PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WMDJ) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 12 Highway Department is sending assistance in the form of manpower to areas of North Carolina affected by last week’s historic flooding.
The team from District 12 will embark on a two-week flood response mission, led by the district’s Safety Coordinator and U.S. Navy veteran James Bowens, and Knott County Superintendent I, Matt Helton.
They along with 10 Highway Technicians and mechanics from Knott and Letcher counties are taking trucks and heavy equipment, along with the knowledge and experience they have from years of flood recovery work in eastern Kentucky to help those in need.
Many on this crew were personally affected by the historic flooding in our area just two years ago.
