WHEELWRIGHT, Ky. (WMDJ) – Two former high-ranking officials at Southeast State Correctional Complex in Wheelwright reportedly left their jobs earlier this year after claiming pay for hundreds of hours they never worked.
Former warden Charles Craig Hughes was fired by the Kentucky Department of Corrections and deputy warden Danny Dean McGraw resigned after an internal investigation discovered that both men falsified work records.
The Lexington Herald-Leader obtained records through the Open Records Act showing state officials acted on a tip that both Hughes and McGraw usage of state vehicles and daytime locations in 2023 and early 2024 didn’t match self-reported work timesheets during the same periods.
Both men claimed overtime pay when they weren’t completing eight-hour workdays.
