FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WMDJ) - Floyd County Schools will be closed on Friday, February 9th, 2024. 

The decision to cancel classes comes one day after Betsy Layne High School was unable to operate due to a lack of teachers or available substitute teachers to fill positions.

Widespread illness is to blame for the closing. Type B "flu" has been very prevalent along with similar viruses among schools since late last week. 

Reportedly attendance figures were at 84% system-wide on Thursday with one school under 80% attendance.
